Failure Analysis FTIR, GC, LC, DSC, TGA, UV-Vis, XRF
GGL’s failure analysis capability can identify the cause, develop a solution to, and prevent future product failures. If product defects go unresolved they can be extremely costly for your business in terms of product recalls, lost customers, major litigation & public relations issues.
Count on our talented chemists to efficiently analyze and identify the mode of failure, develop a solution to fix the problem in a fast & reliable manner, and assist in putting new quality control safeguards in place to help prevent similar product failure issues in your future production.
We have the advanced instrumentation and technical experience needed to solve a variety of failure analysis problems including:
- Identifying the Source of Unknown Impurities/Contaminates
- Premature Product Breakage
- Corrosion/Contamination in Manufacturing Systems
- Brittle Parts, Lack of Adhesion, Strange Odor, etc
- “Good Vs. Bad” Sample Comparison Analysis
We use a wide range of instrumentation for failure analysis testing, including FT-IR, GC, LC, DSC, TGA, FTIR Microscope, UV-Vis, XRF and more for unknown material identification and analysis. Whether the root cause is in the raw materials, a flaw in the products design, or an unknown contamination/problem in the production and processing of your product, our skilled chemists can determine a reliable solution.
We are experienced problem solvers and can identify issues to determine a solution for unknown foreign contamination, corrosion, discoloration, strange odors, reduced shelf life, and more. We can get your company’s production back on track. We are flexible to your needs and can work within your tight deadlines.
GGL provides testing for unknown materials by comparing ‘good’ vs. ‘bad’ samples and can also provide onsite investigations if needed. Our test reports include recommendations to prevent product failure in future production in addition to the conclusions. Along with our final results and reports you will be provided with all the original technical data.
We use X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis to identify inorganic substances. As shown below we can verify if the supplied raw material was used for product manufacturing. In this case Zirconium was used as a tracer material to the raw material. However, product started failing in the field. When tested Zirconium was absent in the final product indicating that supplied raw material was not being used for product manufacturing. XRF can be used to analyze many other elements for identification and quantification.
